I grew up in North Carolina and earned my bachelor’s degree in Archaeology and Materials from MIT with a minor in Spanish. While at MIT I became involved in research at the Center for Materials Research in Archaeology and Ethnology. I studied the mechanical properties and microstructures of Cu-Ag alloys as well as their significance to the ancient cultures of Western Mexico and the Andean region of South America. I also spent a summer working at the National University of Mexico (UNAM) using non-destructive techniques to study murals from 16th century Spanish churches. I enjoy cooking, playing the flute, origami, and eating delicious food.
For my PhD research I will be working with Prof. Dunand and Prof. Ramille Shah to develop a method for 3-D printing Ni-Mn-Ga fibers. Ni-Mn-Ga is of particular interest because it is a magnetic shape memory alloy and therefore has potential applications in energy and medicine.
